Surrendering an Animal

To surrender a pet or stray please call Great Tails Animal Rescue at (218) 398-6191. Once we gather all of your pets/ strays information we will contact our available foster homes to check for placement availability in our foster program. If we have foster home placement available for your pet or stray we will set up a surrender/ intake appointment with the owner. During intake we complete a medical and behavioral assessment. If during intake your pet or stray shows signs of aggression (as noted on our Aggressive Animal Prevention Policy) we will cease our intake process immediately and provide recommendations and resources to the owner on alternative placement for their pet/ stray.

Currently we are unable to take in aggressive animals, animals with a bite history/ deemed dangerous, or feral animals. Please review our Aggressive Animal Prevention Policy for more information.

Q: I have a stray cat/dog that I found on my property, what do I do with it or who do I call?

A: The proper procedure is to call your local law enforcement, who can then give you guidance to where the animal can be placed.
