Simba

Adopted: 12/18/2019

Pet ID: 003

Hi! My name is Simba (due to my long, beautiful mane and large paws). I am a 3 year old, neutered male. He is up to date on shots, and tested neg for feline leukemia. I spent a lot of time inside an office space of a business. I didn't get to roam or interact with a lot of people. Because of that, I am a little skittish at first but it doesn't take me long to warm up to new people.

Callie

Pepper

Adopted: 01/02/2020

Pet ID: 004

Hi everyone! My name is Pepper and I am a Female, 8 month old, Airedale/ hound mix. I am super friendly, smart, and I love being a part of a family. I think kids are sooo much fun! I get along well with cats and absolutely love other dogs. I am observant of humans when we meet. I know within a minute if they need my love and affection, and I happily provide it. I know my basic commands and learned them after only one short (5 minute) training session. My housetraining is great with a feeding schedule! I love playing tug of war and running around with my foster sisters. I prefer an active household with other dogs who love to play. Kids are not a necessity in my home but if you have kids I would love them and protect them as my own. Where you go...I will happily follow.

Oakey

Adopted: 02/15/2020

Pet ID: 011

Oakey is a male 6 month old, blue merle, Border Collie/ Great Pyrenees mix. Oakey came into rescue with his sister Maple. He is up to date on rabies and distemper shots and neutered. He is approximately 40 lbs and growing. He is very friendly and good with kids, cats and other dogs.

An update From Oakey and Maple's foster home:

They are both super affectionate dogs. They love to cuddle with you. They are not very barky...mostly only when they know it’s time to go outside or eat. They are both almost potty trained. They get along with our black lab wonderfully. They are very easy going dogs who respond well to commands (although they don’t know many they do stop what they are doing when they get in trouble). They do seem to know sit already. They do love to chew but nothing has been ruined yet because they chew on their toys. Although they think everything is a chew toy. Both are very playful with each other and our dog. They will make great pets. When they are in the house, they blend right in and lay around and watch us and cuddle with us. They don’t seem overly hyper or difficult. They are very easy dogs. The boy is a messy drinker but the girl is tidy 🙂 They are good on a leash too. They pull a tiny bit but nothing bad and they seem very comfortable on a leash. They are very smart dogs too..like they know how to get their feet off the leash and when they are in trouble. Overall they are very good dogs who will be excellent pets. No bad behaviors that I’ve seen at all!!

Mavis

Adopted 03/15/2020

Pet ID: 021

Mavis is a 1 year old female 11 lb Rat Terrier mix. Mavis is UTD on shots and will be spayed (date TBD). Mavis loves young kids and follows them around all over the house. She is curious of cats, and does well with other dogs. However, if she is sitting on your lap (her favorite place to be) she feels the need to keep other animals away, but she redirects with the command leave it and will lay back down. She is working on potty training and does very well with scheduled feedings and praise when she goes outside. If she is in a quite home she does bark at most noises (again she redirects quickly), but when in an active home you will rarely hear her bark. If she is unsure or curious she will give you the "Elvis" lip as seen in the picture.

Pet ID: 002

Lottie is a 6-7yr old spayed (as of the 14th) DSH dark tortoiseshell female cat. Lottie is great with older kids, bigger dogs and adult, mild-mannered cats. She would prefer a home with no small dogs, as they frighten her. She loves to sit next to her humans and be petted as much as possible. A 7 lb bag of Iams urinary food costs $14 and will last Lotti approximately 3 months as she does not eat very much.

Rose is litter box trained, friendly, and curious of what life inside entails. She does well with calm dogs, cats, and loves people. She will call for you with quiet meows and purrs when you are not in her sight and likes to receive chin scratches. As the weather has warmed up Rose has been trying very hard to sneak outside. Pet ID: 019

Wherever you go she is right there. She likes to sit outside but only on her leash. Bug has not had much experience with other cats, dogs, or kids.

Frank

Pet ID: 051

Frank is a 13 yr old lab mix, neutered and UTD on vaccines. Due to a sudden situation, his owners could no longer care for him. Frank was very well cared for and it shows in his personality--he's a laid back, well mannered dude who loves car rides, does very well on a leash (considering he's 100 lbs) and does well with other dogs, cats, and older kids. Because of his age and anxiety to loud noises, (fireworks and guns,) he would not be a hunting dog.

She had five living kittens, two which had passed away due to fading kitten syndrome. Fiona had emergency surgery at intake. After several weeks of rehabilitation she was able to reunite with her kittens. Fiona tested negative for feline Leukemia, was spayed and up to date on shots. On Wednesday, June 24th, 2020 we received a call from a lady that was on a walk with her young daughter and found 5 kittens dropped off on the edge of a road. She had called Great Tails Animal Rescue and stated the kittens did not have their eyes open. She had looked for the mother and was unable to locate her. She brought the kittens in for intake/ surrender and on assessment we found they were a week of age. We asked the finder to keep looking for the mother as the babies had recently eaten. Raven loves everyone! He will follow you around the house talking the entire time. He gets along with adults, kids, and dogs. As far as cats go, he would love to have a cat friend, however, he has a quark when it comes to cats. He does not have cat social etiquette. Raven has a voice that adult cats find threatening because his meow sounds aggressive. Unfortunately, due to his voice other cats become defensive when all Raven would like to do is play and love up on them. He loves giving and receiving affection and is very playful. When left home alone Raven will need to be in his own room or a kennel. He hates being left alone and will let you know by pooping in your favorite room as a behavior. If he is in a kennel or a small room while you are away and he receives affection as soon as you return he does not have this behavior.

Felix

Adopted: 9/20/2020

Pet ID: 030

Felix is a 4 year old Polydactyl black and white DSH. He is neutered, up to date on shots, and tested negative for feline lukemia.

Felix loves to talk.. and when he talks he expects you to answer and have long conversations. He also loves to rub against and wrap his tail around your legs until you sit down with him. He forms a very strong bond with one person and he can take or leave anyone else. His catnip ball is his favorite toy and he will play with it all day.

In foster care he has been working several times a day with trust exercises. When he first came into foster care he was unable to be pet for long periods of time due to becoming over stimulated quickly. He has been working daily with allowing himself to be pet without him scratching/biting. Now he will lay in his fosters lap for as long as they are willing to pet him. He prefers to be the only cat as he bonds strongly to one person and refuses to share their affection with other cats. He has been introduced to a calm older dog and did very well with proper introduction. Although he has been doing wonderfully, and hasn't reacted negatively to being pet in weeks, he will need to be placed in an adult home only. He may take a little time to warm up to new people, but once he does he is a huge lover!

Gabby

Adopted: 9/30/2020

Pet ID: 067

Meet Gabby. She is a DSH orange tabby. She is a very sweet girl who loves her treats! She is approximately 10 weeks old and is living with her foster mom’s two kittens, 3 pugs and 4 kids. She has adapted very quickly to everyone and chases everyone around to play! She does have a neurological disorder with overactive nerve damage. When she looks up, she hits a nerve and it makes her little head shake. Her back end is a bit wobbly and she will fall down. She loves to jump off things when she has the chance and it does not faze her at all. She doesn’t seem to meow when she jumps off the couch or the 2nd step. She is the snuggliest kitty. She purrs so loud the whole time she sleeps on you, but she is a biter... no warning, will go from sleeping to awake and will latch onto whatever is by her. If she is having a “crabby day” she does cry out more. She doesn't love her back legs or hips touched but is ok if your gentle. She is working on strengthening all her muscles as she tries to keep up with the dogs, kids, other cats, and loves the guinea pigs too. She climbs her foster homes stairs very slowly with a lot of focus, but if she misses or tries going down, it's more of a tuck and roll. She can walk if her legs are under her for a few steps, but if she tries to go fast they make her flip side to side and tumble. She makes it 10-15' and will choose to just lay down and take a break before jumping up and doing it again. It doesn't seem to slow her down, but she gets crabby (bittier) the next day after a lot of activity. If she has a "bad moment" she loves blanket therapy, the foster wraps her in a little blanket, holds her, and she instantly calms. Her front nails seem to get stuck a bit, she doesn’t seem to be able to retract them after she pops them out every time, so she has to be rescued. Gabby will need a special adoptive home. Gabby has tested negative for feline Leukemia and has received her first shots.

Bingo

Adopted: 12/19/2020

Pet ID: 128

Meet Miss Bingo AKA Springo on account of her incredible ability to jump! She is a little over a year old, 31lbs, completely housetrained, and quite a breed-mystery - she looks like a Boston Terrier/Australian Cattle Dog mix to her fosters but German Shepard/Chihuahua mix or Basenji mix have also been suggested. She has a very pouty lower lip due to her underbite that is extremely endearing. Bingo is a super sweet girl - she loves chasing a ball and playing with crinkle toys, giving kisses, and taking snoozes on the couch. She loves kids of any age, although she does have a bit of an excited-jumping habit that needs some work but she is still a bit of a puppy and just needs some consistent direction. Her previous owner stated she does chase cats and ducks but did not hurt them, however, due to her energy and the observations her foster home has seen we are looking for a home without cats or small animals. She will sleep in a crate at night but is also a willing bed-snuggler - just be aware she is a snorer! She would fit right into any house except for ones with an established larger-than-her alpha female. She gets along with her current foster sister who is an alpha dachshund but was surrendered due to not getting along with the large breed alpha female already in the house. She is very playful and eager to learn so she would love to be in a house with another pup to play with and/or people that would train her on good manners - she’d even make an excellent agility dog! Bingo is up to date on vaccines, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped.

Sitka

Adopted: 12/19/2020

Pet ID: 144

Sitka is a 3 year old male Husky with a lot of energy. He loves the outdoors and needs to go on walks or be let to run to chase a ball. He is very mild-mannered but still loves to play. He isn’t aggressive and won’t take things off the counter or from your hand, but if you encourage it, he will play-bite your hand and jump up to wrestle. He likes to be on furniture but has not been allowed to in his foster home. He is housebroken. Sitka gives kisses and likes to cuddle, but he isn’t always expressive, so it’s hard to know when he’s happy. He wags his tail, but not like most dogs to show their feelings. He doesn’t appear to know any commands. He barely reacts to “come” or his name. He doesn’t pull terribly hard on the leash so goes on walks well. He does seem to like to dig a lot, so that could be an issue in the summer. He doesn’t like to be alone. He has attached to his foster mom and follows her around constantly. He may have separation anxiety because he always wants to be where she is. He whines when left alone, but he does not bark when someone comes to the door or there are people outside. He does shed like crazy. His forever home needs to be a place where dog hair is accepted. He has very fine white hair that gets everywhere! He seems to be a picky eater. His dry kibble has been covered in turkey fat so that he eats.

In his foster family, he has been with a 9 yo spayed female black lab. They were getting along well until day four, when Sitka was very comfortable in his new home and began showing more aggressive behavior. He attacked the lab twice in one day. The first time was while playing tug-of-war with a stick, and both dogs were getting more playful so it was understandable that he was getting excited and maybe overly playful, but he suddenly began fighting with the dog. The second time was completely unprovoked. He and the foster mom were in the kitchen when the lab came into the kitchen and Sitka attacked. Both times, he responded well to scolding and stopped. He does respond to scolding well, even though he doesn’t seem to know commands. But the behavior shown towards the lab indicates he may have alpha dog aggression and should be the only dog in the house if possible, or he is becoming possessive of the foster mom and doesn’t want to share her with another dog.

Overall, he will make an excellent pet. He is very mild-mannered, affectionate, and fits into a house easily. He is happy to go on walks and then lay around in the house. He isn’t loud but has energy for walks several times a day. He is a very nice, loving dog.

Unfortunately, the sedentary lifestyle of my is not conducive for this breed of dog.
Gus is very hyper at first, but then settles down. He loves to play fetch. He is good with dogs, unknown with cats, and will jump on kids. We have brought Gus to the vet and they recommend he should be on an anxiety medication due to his hyper personality at least until he is fully trained.

Caspian

Adopted: 12/29/2020

Pet ID: 169

Caspian is an Australian shepherd in the prime of his life at 5 years old. He's very friendly and sweet and clearly wants nothing more than a human he can call his own. He's very smart and eager to please. Caspian came to Great Tails Rescue already knowing a few obedience commands and is quickly learning more - he's fun to work with because he's so attentive. Like any Aussie, Caspian needs consistent training, lots of exercise, and regular brushing to live his best life. Caspian is totally housebroke, crate-trained, and likes riding in the car. He's known to un-stuff a dog toy here and there but he doesn't chew up anything other than dog toys. Caspian will not hesitate to push open a door that isn't quite latched all the way and he knows how to get past the lid on a garbage can - his affinity for food knows no shame. Caspian is overweight but by measuring his food and giving him plenty of opportunities for exercise, he's already headed in the right direction. Caspian loves to go on walks - he gets adorable, uncontrollable wiggle-butt when you show him his leash. He pulls a bit on his leash at the beginning of his walks but once he gets over the thrill of being outside he settles in and makes an excellent walking companion. Caspian's been getting along very well with the other dog in his foster home (a two year old goldendoodle). His previous owner said that he gets along fine with kids, too. Caspian is quiet for the most part but will bark when he gets riled up while playing and he certainly won't hesitate to let you know when someone pulls in the driveway. Although Caspian can be a couch potato at times, the best home for him will have a fenced yard, acreage, or an active owner who can commit to taking him out every day to walk, jog, ski, or snowshoe. He would love nothing more than to find a life-long companion to share adventures. Caspian is neutered and up to date on vaccines.
