About Great Tails Animal Rescue

Great Tails Animal Rescue is a board-founded, board-operated nonprofit serving Itasca County, Minnesota, and surrounding communities. Established in 2018 to help fill a need for local animal welfare services, Great Tails provides temporary shelter, veterinary care and support for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs, cats and small domestic animals while working to place them in loving, permanent homes.

Great Tails also advocates for animals throughout the community by promoting spaying and neutering, encouraging essential veterinary care, and providing education and resources to pet owners.

In 2025, Great Tails began construction on a standalone facility in Cohasset, Minnesota, made possible through generous community donations and grant funding. The facility officially opened its doors in June 2026, marking a new chapter in the organization’s mission to serve animals and the people who care for them.
